Anytime a check is printed, there needs to be an audit trail, even if a batch is cancelled. There needs to be some type of warning that a check was printed, but not recorded AND the check number, payee and amount should be recorded in an audit trail.

We had an AP Clerk cut a check and then accidently cancelled the batch. The check was deposited and processed through the bank account. While reconciling the account, the check was not in the register, which required us to do some research. Fortunately, the check was to one of our companies. However, this could lead to a significant fraud situation.
