Instant "F4-like" list which allows us to customize what double-clicking does on a result!

This would be very useful anywhere in any grid to allow a user to quickly peer into the source behind why the 'OnHand' value is now -400, or where the piece of equipment was on april 24th, or everywhere a particular material is actively stocked, or what made the JC Contract Item current amount what it is, or where the 'Booked' inventory is booked to, or see shipments for a PO or MO, or see all transactions with a vendor&Material...etc

It would be setup almost exactly the same way the F4 lookups are setup. But there would be an additional area to say "Here is what to do when a line from the lookup is double-tapped", which would do a custom action, much the same way the custom buttons can do almost anything. This would allow us to link a result from the lookup to open a particular form, or launch a particular report with values pre-filled, or run a custom exe.

Just think of the possibilities!

Currently the F4 lookups are quite nice for displaying quick lists of information, but are dangerous if the user double taps on a line, as that will put the first field-value into the source Form. If the F4 Lookup is for informational purposes only, then we don't want the value to go into the source form. At the very least it would be good to have a "Don't Push Number To Source Form" option we could turn on or off for custom lookups.

In fact, you could most likely use the existing F4 Lookup Setup forms, and add a few additional fields and options to make it work like described above.

Yes, we could find the same information through reports, but that requires the user to refocus at the top of the page, right click, select REPORTS, select the right report, tap OK to launch the report, then wait for Crystal or SSRS to figure out how many pages, and finally render the result. Plus it require a bit more programming in the SSRS report to get the actions to open forms back in viewpoint. That is way slower than F4 lookups. The quicker we can provide users with relevant information, the better their choices will be, and the more they will love the software.

Please think of the incredible value and power this will bring to the Vista platform!

Clarification: I'm not asking for you (Viewpoint) to build the queries to show us the information I mentioned in the first paragraph. Rather, I'm asking for additional capability in the "Custom Lookups", ie, the ability to connect the double-tapping of a result to a particular custom action, rather than sending it back into the source form and field.
