When you create a custom field, it's easy to forget why it was created in the first place. A notes field would be a nice way to capture this information at the time the girl field is created

I agree, it'd be nice to be able to store meta information about custom fields from within the "Custom Field" setup wizard.

The Status text is helpful to guide users how to use the field, but it'd also be helpful to have a notes field as part of the wizard and stored in DDFIc to record the customization project, the creator, the date created and the intended purpose.

When adding to editing a field with the VA Custom Field Wizard you can include text (up to 256 chars) that will display at the bottom of the form in its status bar when your custom field has focus.
Add a notes field to the Custom Field is needed.
Especially if these notes show up in the status bar when the field is selected.
