VP has a pretty neat system setup where tapping F5 in a field (or in same cases double clicking on a field or row in a tab) will open the related form pre-filtered to only show related records.

That is very handy when you need to quickly add a new category or edit some data in the related form, but this method also sets the new (related) form as BLOCKING-ALL-OTHER-VP-WINDOWS.

There are times when I'd like to open the the related form via the same method and NOT block access to the rest of Viewpoint.

Example

Say I'm in SM Service Sites and want to check up on the agreement, so I tap the Agreements tab and double tap a listed agreement.

Now while the SM Agreements form is open, I get a call or need to print off some other report, but don't want to lose where I was in the review process on the agreement.

Bummer. no can do.

Proposed Idea

If the "related form" is listed ON IT'S OWN in the main Viewpoint window, then DO NOT BLOCK the rest of Viewpoint.

If the "related form" is NOT listed on it's own, then your existing "block Viewpoint while new form is up" could still take place.

(or perhaps "block the rest of Viewpoint" should never take place?)

I think the above guidelines would work in most cases, as using the double tap (or F5, or a custom button) is sometimes just a nice way of opening a RELATED form (pre-filtered) without having to go through the main Viewpoint module folders.

Does this tie into your overhaul of the entire filtering system?

What I'd love to see in the "related form" functionality

 - Open the related form NOT BLOCKING the rest of Viewpoint

 - Set the FILTERS above the grid in the related form.

This way the correct record would be opened, but the user could also tap the GRID tab and explore as they wish, and also open other forms via the main Viewpoint window, or however they want.
