Add support for Kansas Sales Tax laws

Kansas Sales Tax is very complex and isn't well-suited for how Vista handles taxes when billing invoices through SM - for example, on a taxable work order, labor is 100% taxable but on material, only the markup on material is taxable because we paid tax on it to the vendor already. We are technically never supposed to show tax on material, ever, per the state. I have attached the booklet provided by the state, which is a lot of detail, but does list what comprises the tax base in the state. If more information or examples are desired, please email me. The way we handle sales tax on Contract jobs is different and we believe it to be correct in our situation, but other companies (especially those that do T&M contract billings) may be affected by this as well.

Any progress on this? After talking to multiple companies across the country over the last 5 years, this is still a major issue and has even caused issues during tax audits where one company on Vista was able to provide a custom report to auditors (that they paid for themselves) and then the auditor thinks that all users on Vista can produce the same report.

Also, on the CFMA forums, I just came across a thread that suggests that California has a similar law regarding materials (sales tax is remitted on Marked-up price minus cost price).

MMC Corp also pays use tax to vendors on all purchases, but also has a sales tax liability for the markup of materials to the customer.

Scott, we were just told by a consultant that Texas has a law that treats remodel work similar to how Kansas treats its work. Not for sure on specifics but is worth investigating.

    Scott,

This has been the law since I started in the construction industry (5+ years) and has been around for at least several years prior. I couldn't tell you for sure if this only applies to Kansas, but from what we've learned in speaking with different local consultants, the surrounding states (Nebraska and Oklahoma for sure) handle tax more traditionally than Kansas.

    Thanks!

    A couple questions:

Is this something that only applies to only Kansas?

Is this a recent change in the law?

    Thanks
