Our issue is that we have multiple employees working at job sites across multiple provinces in any given pay period, with there being no consistent province to use as a basis for taxes. So, we had to refer to the CRA to determine how their taxes should be calculated, and as per CRA guidelines - "If an employee reports to your place of business for part of a pay period in one province or territory and part in another, use the tables for where the employee spent the most time". As of now Vista does not follow this rule, and splits the earnings between provinces worked as per the Tax Province in the Time card Entry, which is pulled from the Job province or employee home Province depending on what option is selected in the employee's profile. There needs to be guard in place that only one province is used per pay period for tax purposes, as the employees are not paying enough taxes when more than one is used because of the earnings exemption in place for each province being triggered on each pay period. Currently my company has to manually process a PDOC for each and every employee after their time has been entered each pay period to determine the correct provincial taxes and override Vista's amounts through employee sequence detail. Many companies may not even have realized that this issue is happening, unless they have been comparing their payroll registers with PDOC online, and I would suggest to any company with multiple provincial deductions showing in a single pay period for an employee that they do some due diligence on these and run PDOC consistently until Vista catches up with this rule and offers a software-based solution.
