It is useful because it is a waste of valuable time. Multiply the times one has to enter into a new command area if it takes an extra minute x 260 work days in a year; enter the batch dates again, is it a new file?, etc, etc. when the entire transaction could be performed in one screen. This equates to wasted human resource cost where time may be better spent on less functional activity.
