Send Entire VRL Report to Client instead of Individual Pages (Improve Caching of Crystal Reports in VRL)

We have started using VRL and noticed reports require loading each page when previewing, which decreases productivity, especially when flipping back & forth between pages in a report.

I reached out to customer support, this was their report:

I experienced 2 second page load times for most pages.  One page took 5 seconds to load.  I ran a process monitor trace on the activity.  When using VRL, I believe the VRLCrystal website is rendering the report page as a web page in IIS.  It then sends the web page data to the Vista client software.

I see https requests for each page load.  This indicates we're making a web request to IIS for each page.  Load times may vary based on the amount of data in the report and available internet bandwidth.

I confirmed SAP Runtime for .Net is still needed on the client pc.  I'm guessing its needed for generating the request to the webserver.  The Vista client will error before opening the report parameters screen if the SAP software is uninstalled on the client pc.

A Vista client that is connected to the LAN does perform different activity.  Again, I used Process Monitor to trace the activity.  Its saving the rpt file and a tmp file to %temp% on the client pc.  I assume the Vista client is accessing the local file for each page load.

2-5 second wait times between page loads adds up quickly. Especially when flipping back & forth between pages. Note: It does reload pages you've already viewed, adding unnecessary wait times when trying to digest the data.

Ideally it should download the full report or use a temp file similarly to the LAN version of the report viewer.

Current solution seems to be to Export every report, which is also tedious.

If VP is really pushing everyone onto VRL, I think VP might want to reconsider the priority of this wish. :-/
