When setting up a vendor in AP Vendor Master, the default option is "Subject to 1099 Reporting" and the default 1099 type is "MISC" with Line "7" being the default line. Now that line on 1099-Misc is no longer used for non-employee compensation, it makes no sense for this to be the default. I'd venture to guess most contractors need this to default to "NEC" line 1 instead... but an ability to choose what the default value is would be more helpful in case others have different types that are more common. It's quite frustrating to have to change this value every time we set up a vendor, especially given the lions share of them are 1099-NEC line 1 and the current default values aren't even relevant anymore.
