When you create a payroll deduction for local withholding taxes, you have the ability to add "Aatrix Tax Type" on the Add'l Info tab. This is a necessity as this is what appears on the employee's W-2 when filing through Aatrix. Only issue is if the locality is not in the list provided, then we must use Tax Type 2000 as a generic blanket just to identify that it is a local tax. When you are filing W-2s, these generic ones pull through with just the initials of the PR Local Code and a number at the end to separate duplicates. This means nothing to the employee. So we have to manually change any of those to the name of the locality. If you operate in OH, PA, KY, or IN then you have a lot of them. We had to correct 50+ this year. You have to be sure you make these fixes only during the final time when you are ready to process W-2s. If you need to re-initialize then it wipes out those fixes and you have to do it all over again. First fix, update the Aatrix Tax Type list so you do have all of the localities available. Second fix, we need to have the ability to enter the name of the locality as it should appear on the W-2 in a UD Field next to the Aatrix Tax Type when you select "2000".

It would also be great if all city and school districts could have an Aatrix tax type assigned, regardless of whether or not they currently impose a tax. We set up all cities and school districts in payroll deductions even if the tax rate is 0 so that we can tie all the wages back to either Fed/State/Medicare. Additionally, just because a city or school district doesn't have a tax at this time, doesn't mean they won't in the future and I want our jobs and payroll setup with the deduction codes now so that we are prepared if they add a tax later.
