I wish I had a great suggestion for how to fix this, but mostly what I have is a description of the problem:
When we receive parts against a PO that has incorrect pricing on it, and then post the AP invoice with the correct pricing later, the average cost per unit gets rather inflated. The more significant the difference between the PO price and the AP price, the more significant the change in the average unit cost. I worked through some examples (two real-life examples, and some simpler ones with rounder figures), as well as ideas on how to fix this (without much luck), in an Excel workbook which is attached.
I offer this to make you aware of the issue, and in the hopes that maybe someone smarter than me can figure out how to address it.
