User Defined Lookups - Hidden Column for 1st column but still posts as entry

It would be beneficial to have a UD LookUp that would Hide the Job Code / or Phase Code for the Timesheets in HFF Portal showing the description. The Job Code or Phase code would still post to the timesheet entry in Vista but the lookup would just be the description. This makes more sense to the employee with timesheets rather than the Job codes & Phase Codes.
