Customer's expect that Service Providers can tell them when they start work and stop work. This aids with invoicing. It's critical that the start and stop times get entered into Vista SM instead of PR because if the lines originate in the Payroll module, it prevents Service Operations staff from being able to make changes when necessary. If the lines are created in Service First, the Start and Stop times can't be entered and flow into Payroll today. By making this change in Vista, Time Tracked through punchclocks on MSI Data's Mobile Solution will flow into SM and seamlessly all the way to payroll.

I've just brought a second company online in Vista. For the first company, we tracked start/stop TIMES in the MEMO Field for "My Timesheets".
For the 2nd company, I built a custom "UD PR Timecards" table which holds PRCo, Employee, Sheet (random integer), Start/Stop times, JCCo, Job, Phase, SMCo, WorkOrder, Scope, PayType. Then I put triggers in place to keep my custom table in sync with "PR MyTimesheets".
Viewpoint: We could have shaved MONTHS off development if your software had a generic "PR Timecard" area (NOT the batch entry area) wherein employees could enter their time with jobs/phases, and the start/stop times (or start time + duration). The lack of such a form has always puzzled me.
Yes, it would need to carry the start/stop times through Timesheet Entry and Timesheet Approval.
The start and stop times are what determines the employee pay rate and additional allowances for payroll purposes. Whilst the times are being captured on the mobile device this information is not currently transferrable to Viewpoint. Employees are still required to complete a timesheet for payroll.
