Make Job Status more independent from Contract Status

I see there's a planned enhancement to be able to Soft Close a single job on a Contract (without closing the contract), which is great.  But along with this, will the Job Status end up more independent from the Contract Status so that, for instance, we'd be able to open a new project on an Open Contract and have the status of that new project be 0-Pending (even though the Contract Status is 1-Open)?  We would like to be able to do that...
