I'm glad to see that Trimble is putting some resources into this!
After perusing the API documentation, I noticed a few oddities:
Only some of the modules have a "Post this batch" command. MANY modules have ways to add things into batches, but not post them.
There are sometimes three or four identical calls to "Get one XXXXX object from the cache" in each module, differing only by URL, and what combination of the following they use:
subscriber_code
ryvitId_value
KeyID
Co/Mth/BatchId
>>>>> This is confusing to look at, as the titles of these endpoints don't say what the difference is, and the user must tap on each endpoint (and wait for the 2 second load) to check the URL if it's the one they use.
Pretty much every single endpoint says "from the cache" on it. Why? Do the calls not interact with the data in the DB?
Again, I'm super glad that Trimble is investing (or encouraging another company to invest) in building out a complete Restful API.
But I'm sad that (a) this is only available to TC1 customers and not those of us who want to control our own servers, and (b) that VP didn't see the need to invest in this API 10 years ago (or 20). WAY behind the ball here, but glad to see Trimble pushing to catch up.
A paid service?
Explains why running IMAuto direct imports was removed.
Vista provides RESTful APIs as a service layer for TC1 cloud customers - see https://direct-api.xchange.trimble.com/ for details
We use a third party application for our timesheets, pre-starts etc and it would be great to have an API access so that we can automate the updating of EM codes, Job/Phase codes etc rather than having to continually manually update the libararies of Vista data.
Don't know much about API's or REST-API's. I'm curious once implemented, would this dramatically increase the speed of VRL cloud hosted Vista?
(edit to last comment), I mean support phase-out in 2026. Not that far away.
Sept. 2023, any updates on a timeframe @Eric? We would LOVE to see something like this soon, especially if all the on-premise hosted systems are planned for support phase-out in 2023.
Has there been any updates on if an API will be coming anytime soon?
Hope this includes APIs for on-premise hosted systems?
In this day and age, this kind of API would make your product so much more usable.
