When trying to email invoices from SM you need to be able to send via your personal email account not a generic email account such as accouting@XXXXCompany.com. A single generic email creates a need for all accounting staff to monitor a single account and then decipher who needs to act upon a response email. If you were able to launch your email when sending out an SM Invoice or any other document in Vista you would eliminate this hassle thus creating a much more streamlined process

For all contractors who don’t have a one-to-one relationship an Outlook integration will be required. The majority of our customers have different people to email depending on the type of invoice. For example we can do work directly for the building owner and we’ll send that invoice to the owner. For the exact same property we can be working for the property manager and we’ll need to send the invoice to the property manager. This is a very simplified example as we have many more customers that depending on the system type we are servicing the bill goes to a different person in each scenario, so having a single contact/email in the system is not feasible for our line of business. In addition to complex delivery scenarios, it is often very helpful to have the email messages archived in Outlook when proof of delivery is needed. For these reasons and more this is a tremendously important feature for all that are in the construction/service industry as the current process is extremely time consuming process and when you do upwards of 800 work orders a month this time really adds up for our accounting team. Please consider an Outlook integration as a necessity to solve this problem.
Whoops, looks like VA User Profile already has an email address, so no need to even do a lookup to PR Employees. Even simpler!
Eric, for us the Reply-To would be the best option. Since VA User Profile already has a HR (and PR Employee) link, looking up the logged-in users email is a simple query.
I'm not sure how you'd go about setting up the SMTP authentication pass-through for each individual user, but that sounds like a much bigger headache for the IT side of things.
Would the reply-to option that Nathan Sutherland mentions work for you? Or perhaps having the ability for Vista to send emails through an SMTP server without Outlook plug-in being needed (using the user's credentials) would that work as another option?
Or how about giving us the option to set the 'Reply-To' to the current employee's email address? That way replies would come to the right spot.
